Mit dem Skalarprodukt rechnet man den Winkel zwischen zwei Vektoren.

Die allgemeine Formel lautet :  	 \vec a *\vec b= \left| \vec a \right| *\left| \vec b \right| * cos  \varphi

Um den Winkel zwischen zwei Vektoren auszurechnen formt man die Formel um in

                              cos\varphi=\frac{a*b}{ 	 \left| a \right|* 	 \left| b \right|}

Beispiel 1:

Berechne den Winkel zwischen den Vektoren  	 \vec a=\begin{pmatrix}
1 \\6 \\4 \end{pmatrix} und \vec b= \begin{pmatrix}
2 \\2 \\1 \end{pmatrix}

Also cos \alpha = \frac{\begin{pmatrix}
1 \\6 \\4 \end{pmatrix}*\begin{pmatrix}
2 \\2 \\1 \end{pmatrix}}{\sqrt{1^2+6^2+4^2*\sqrt{2^2+2^2+1^2}}} = \frac{2+12+4}{\sqrt{53}*\sqrt{9}} =\frac{18}{\sqrt{53}*3} =\frac{6}{\sqrt{53}} daraus folgt \alpha  \approx 34,5°

Orthogonalität

Wenn  	 \vec a und  	 \vec b mit a\ne 0 und b \ne 0 sind, dann gilt:\vec a *\vec b= 0 Gilt umgekehrt  	 \vec a* 	 \vec b=0, dann sind  	 \vec a und 	 \vec b orthogonal.

Beispiel 2

Prüfe,ob die Vektoren a=\begin{pmatrix}
3 \\-1 \\2 \end{pmatrix} und b=\begin{pmatrix}
-4 \\5 \\3 \end{pmatrix} orthogonal (rechtwinklig) sind

Bedingung ist \vec a *\vec b muss gleich 0 sein

Also :

\begin{pmatrix}
3 \\-1 \\2 \end{pmatrix} *\begin{pmatrix}
-4 \\5 \\3 \end{pmatrix} = 3* (-4) + (-1) * 5 + 2 * 3= -11

und -11 ist\not= 0, deswegen sind 	 \vec a und 	 \vec b nicht orthogonal
